The great thing about blogging into the void is that nobody notices if you don't update your journal for three or four months at a time.

Anyway, I deleted my puffinmuffin livejournal. Everything is backed up over here anyway, and I figured I'd beat LJ to the punch. I haven't logged in over there in even longer than it's been since I logged in over here, and I backed everything up anyway.

... Except custom icons that were giftart, and in hindsight I should have done that before hitting the nuke button, but whatever. I haven't used them in years, either.

I really enjoy these Superhero Squad icons, la.

Huh.

I mean, it's been a while since I opened a blog post feeling like I need to get some stream-of-consciousness blathering off my chest. And LJ in general doesn't make me feel comfortable in the least, especially since they've apparently relocated all of their servers to a country in which being queer is still very much illegal at best, and a death sentence at worst. Not that I'm ever planning on going to that country, because I am aware of this as a thing and tend to avoid places where I have cause to fear for my life more than I do here in my own neck of the woods, but it still feels just a touch skitchy to be sharing all of my thoughts and feelings (ha) on a platform that is now entirely located in Russia.

... I mean, beating a dead horse at this point, but I also backed up all of my current RP journals to shiny new homes over here. Not going to press for a move of our game for various reasons including but not limited to having no more fucks left to give as I watch it slowly wither away into a desiccated corpse of its former self, but I'd be sad if I lost old threads and posts just because I have a tendency to play boys who also like kissing boys now and then.

And I brought over all of my LJ posts from my puffinmuffin journal over there, too. I plan to never go back and read them, because good god I haven't posted regularly on LiveJournal in my personal blog since long before I even left Alberta, but it contains so much of my history that the idea of losing that into the hypothetical homophobic void made my heart hurt. I'm still chewing on going back and deleting the journal as a whole, since it's all safe and sound over here and I don't use my LJ anymore anyway, but that seems like a decision better made on more than three hours of sleep during a windstorm while the quails biff away at the floor of their cage in search of turkey chow.

Maybe I'll actually keep up on this 'blogging into the void' thing over here, this time around. I did a bit of it back in my college days, and kind of tapered off after I got into the animation industry, because hooooboy there's a soul-sucking career choice I made once upon a time. But now I've worked on things for the BBC, Disney, and Warner Bros, so I'm qualified to bitch about it now, right?

Just a list of journals I keep for roleplay and hobby purposes. Don't mind me. They're full of shiny and I'm slightly addicted, is all.

Omnomnom journals. )
puffinmuffin: (Default)

Hulloo!

This journal is Friends Only. If you wish to be added to my friends list so that you can have a peek in on my life, then leave a comment here, and I'll probably add you back. Unless you creep the living heck out of me. In which case... well... you won't be added back. Obviously.

Really, I'm easy. If you introduce yourself, I'll most likely add you. Hi!
puffinmuffin: (Nashi - Carrot Fairy)
Oh, wow. I have one of these things! I keep forgetting that, until I'm angry enough to dump a rant in my journal, or until I decide to do another round of fairy icon commissions. Things have been busy lately. It's hard to find too much spare time around working on animating for television, you know? (Also dear god I've worked on four shows now, how time does fly...)

But today I want to draw something that isn't work, so...

Fairy Icons and Nekked Icons for $5 a pop, or simple profile images for $10 each (give me the dimensions and the colour-scheme and explain what you want, and I'll hook you up with the image. I can't do the code for you.)

Payment: All payments can be made to my shiny new Paypal account! PAYPAL. Bet you never thought you'd see the day. (I use my thane.incarnadine (at) gmail.com email over there. Because it is the email that will never die.)

If you don't have Paypal, we can probably work something else out. Paid LJ accounts come in odd denominations, but they have this nifty token system that lets you pick your price- So, one icon for 500 tokens which comes to $5. I might also be persuaded to take payments in Amazon gift cards, since I have this shiny new Kindle and it's making sad hungry 'feed me with books' faces at me.

Please Note: I no longer take rainchecks on pre-paid icons, because I simply don't have time to draw things on command between working insane hours at the studio, so if you think you might want something but aren't certain just what, just hold off, and poke me in the future, when you do think of what you want.

If you're interested, comment here and we can discuss what you'd like icons of, how many you'd like, and sort out reference or descriptions of the character you'd like to have drawn. If you'd like your icons to be a surprise gift for somebody, feel free to poke me on AIM at raspberryturk or to email me at shannon.perry3d (at) gmail.com. Commisisons do not have to be limited to fairy or nekkid icons, I will do printable conbadge commissions or simple doodles as well. If you have something particular in mind, feel free to ask!
puffinmuffin: (Sam - Rage!)
I am at that point where I would cut my father out of my life if he didn't have like half of my things.

This is my career you asshole, I can work weekends if I want to, I'm not a part of your system, I threw it on the ground.

Arg.

As soon as I have my stuff, old man. As soon as I have my stuff...

This post has been brought to you by my father holding half my worldly possessions hostage again and telling me that it pretty much doesn't matter that I am both sick today and that I have a shitload of work to finish before Monday if I want to get my quota done this week.

And also the fact that he still seems to be unable to grasp that no matter how many times he e-mails me his phone number between seven and nine in the morning that doesn't change the fact that 1) I was asleep and 2) I DON'T OWN A GODDAMN PHONE.
puffinmuffin: (Mav - Facepalm)
Because it feels wrong being so angry at LJ and only putting this post up over there regardless.

So, what am I offering?

Fairy Icons and Nekked Icons for $5 a pop, or simple profile images for $10 each (give me the dimensions and the colour-scheme and explain what you want, and I'll hook you up with the image. I can't do the code for you.)

Payment: All payments can be made to my shiny new Paypal account! PAYPAL. Bet you never thought you'd see the day. (I use my thane.incarnadine (at) gmail.com email over there. Because it is the email that will never die.)

If you don't have Paypal, we can probably work something else out. I have this visceral rage at LJ these days, but I will accept payment in points over here on Dreamwidth (it's ten cents per point, so I'd charge 50 points for a $5 icon, for example), if you pay by credit card and you're desperate for some of these things.

Please Note: I no longer take rainchecks on pre-paid icons, because I simply don't have time to draw things on command between the transit strike going on here in the HRM and the fact that I'm working insane hours at the studio, so if you think you might want something but aren't certain just what, just hold off, and poke me in the future, when you do think of what you want.

If you're interested, comment here and we can discuss what you'd like icons of, how many you'd like, and sort out reference or descriptions of the character you'd like to have drawn. If you'd like your icons to be a surprise gift for somebody, feel free to poke me on AIM at raspberryturk or to email me at thane.incarnadine (at) gmail.com. Icons do not have to be limited to fairy or nekkids, I will do simple doodles as well. If you have something particular in mind, feel free to ask!

The Superstore around the corner from where I work sells Tim-Tams.

I bought two packages today and one is already gone.

That is all.
puffinmuffin: (Warren - Flowers)
I'm reading a Darkwing Duck comic book.

And it is FREAKING AMAZING.

I need more of these in my life. I don't even. Whut.
puffinmuffin: (SHS Hawkeye - Ugh)
Tired. Bleeding from the back of one hand because apparently that's just how leg-shaving works when you're an uncoordinated lesbian who rarely bothers and only attempted because you were feeling fidgety, okay. Starting to take a serious look at my hobbies to re-evaluate just how much the stress is really worth it, in the name of recreation. Jury at this point says it's just not. Not at all.

We'll see where that heads. In the meantime, I'll entertain myself with other stuff. RP here on DW, watching cartoons with friends. Fluffy stuff. About all I have the brains for, especially when I'm putting in thirteen hour days five or more days a week, is fluff.

And apparently fart jokes. Oh, Super Hero Squad.

Work is starting to look like it'll pick up from here, though. Which, now that I've said it, will likely explode spectacularly in my face.

Metro Transit? Still on strike. I'm less thrilled about that. Less still, knowing that I'll be completely without a way in to work in a few weeks when Dad flies out to Alberta, if the transit isn't back.

But I'll figure that out when it becomes an issue. In the meantime? Sleep.

Tomorrow I'm going to buy so much Tim Horton's coffee, my coworkers will wonder how I manage to get from place to place without my feet actually touching the ground like that. And it will be amazing. (It's Roll Up The Rim month. Don't judge me, it's a sacred Canadian institution.)
puffinmuffin: (Kotetsu - Lollipop)
Just tired, today. Sore, too. Cold weather and way, way more walking than I'm used to means my cranky hip is acting up and taking its buddy my knee with it. My opposite ankle, not wanting to be left out of the fun, decided to give misbehaving a go, too.

I'm pretty darn lucky I don't actually have to do much walking once I get to work. I've developed a spectacular hobble. One of the new coworkers was telling me today that I'd look pretty smokin' with a pimp cane to go with my fedora.

I think I'm going to run a hot bath and finish reading Dreams Made Flesh while I try to remind myself what not being in pain feels like. And then sleep. I plan on being bright-eyed and bushy tailed tomorrow, whether I can stand up or not.

Going to be scarce on the internet for the rest of the week, I think. If I take a little longer to reply to comments/emails or I'm just not on AIM, it's nothing personal. I just feel way, way too tired. Love the new job. Still looking forward to the weekend.

Oooohboy.

.... Did [personal profile] steelneko warn me that it's impossible to stop watching Tiger & Bunny after you hit, like, episode nine? Because I should have been in bed six hours ago and if she didn't warn me then I'm totally holding her responsible for the fact that it's 6:30 in the morning and I'm talking myself out of starting episode 16 right now.

THIS IS WHY I DON'T WATCH THINGS, GUYS. I DON'T KNOW WHEN TO PUT IT DOWN.

Now there's a new opening sequence. This shouldn't be so interesting, and yet...

In other news, I really need to get my laptop's keyboard cleaned and repaired. The V key is still hanging on by a nub, and my P key is starting to stick. Le sigh.

... No, I don't think I am heading to bed. If I stay up through the day, with maybe a nap somewhere in the middle, I'll be able to sleep tonight like a normal person. Uh. Normal people do sleep at night, right? So they tell me? I mean, presumably I'll be one of those once I'm holding down a day job, so that's how that's supposed to work. I sleep at night! Unless I'm staying late!

How in the world was this easier when I was a student sleeping eight hours a week?
puffinmuffin: (Mav - Facepalm)
So, on [personal profile] steelneko's advice, I finally started watching the anime series, Tiger & Bunny. And while I find the punch-you-in-the-face product placement hilarious, I'm actually kind of enjoying the heck out of it.

Yes, Wild Tiger is completely my 'type.' Super-powered spiky-haired bright blue-eyed idealist hero who lives in a tiered city where the higher the tier, the more wealth there is to throw around, who cares more about the job than the people employing him do, since they're way more interested in the company image...

I'm looking forward to seeing the rest. I haven't really been big on anime in years (with the exception of Miracle Train, which was too ridiculous not to love), but in spite of the shameless product placement (HAVE SOME MORE BANDAI IN YOUR FACE), this one is pretty darn good.

Or maybe I'm being crazy again. :D

T-Shirts?

puffinmuffin: (Tigress - Facepalm)
It's an idea I've kind of noodled with for a while. The possibility of using my artistic skills (because presumably I have those, having just gotten a job in the animation industry and all) in order to bring in a little more money on the side. And, being a shameless TeeFury addict (who just got an account at shirtPunch! recently too, because I spotted a shirt that would make an excellent gift for somebody), it occurs to me... there's a crazy amount of competition going into those sites for that one day in the sun, but what harm would it do for me to come up with a design and submit it? Either it gets some love and I get some money, or it doesn't, no harm, no foul, so why not?

I could do the lineart in Flash so that it's extra clean vector art. Colour it up in Photoshop. Et cetera, et cetera.

So, what's holding me back?

... I really, really can't think of any good visual puns or popular culture references that people would want to spend money on. Sigh. Maybe I should sleep on this one.
puffinmuffin: (Mav - Facepalm)
It occurs to me that all the creeps that I had my LJ on lockdown for because they're psychotic creepers... aren't going to be here on DW. So look at me, all hip and trendy with a public post!

Not that I have anything to say, really. My cat is learning that it's warmer under the covers in mid-December. I have warm feet.

This is the important insight into my life that I grant you, the few, the brave, the people who were disgruntled enough with LJ that they packed it on over here.

Don't you feel lucky?

... I need more icons that aren't just ganked from my FH boys. Until then, Maverick.
puffinmuffin: (Issues Wheeeee)
I just got news about someone I barely know, though she is on my friendslist, and most of you old-school FH-ers would know her, and I'm speechless.

I know she was wonderful. I remember how much of an effort she put forth to memorialize Monsta when she passed away. She had asked me to draw pictures to send to her while she was in the hospital, and I never did get them finished in time.

Nobody asked me to draw pictures for Lori's (D/Luna-Mun/Ely/[livejournal.com profile] musicforcylons/[livejournal.com profile] sisterpandora's) sake. I never interacted much with her while she was playing in the game, but I'm happy that I did have the opportunity to speak to her now and again otherwise.

She passed away yesterday. I'm passing along second, third-hand information, and the cause is still unclear until Relly (Who I ask that you wait for news from, rather than messaging her to dredge it up. Be gentle. Leave her be until she's ready.) can phone her mother for more details. And I don't know what else to say.

She was good people. I don't have any art prepared this time around specifically for her, and I wouldn't know what to draw, were I to attempt some sort of tribute. So I'll link to this, because she had asked for it back when Monsta was going through rough times, and D is in this image as well. It seems fitting, then, that this picture is what I've managed to dredge up.

I've left this post unlocked, in case you know of someone who isn't on my friendslist who should know.

Good-bye, D.

Oh, wow.

It's been forever and then some since the last time I got myself a journal that I needed an invite for. Since I got my Livejournal, I think, back in August of 2002.

Needless to say, that journal has seen a lot.

I still haven't decided what I'm going to do with this one, here. Maybe I'll turn this into an art blog, and set some goals for myself to post art once every set period of time. Maybe I'll just use this as a fresh start. There are things floating around in my LJ that I don't necessarily want to read back over again. And this journal comes at a fresh start in my life as well, considering I moved to Nova Scotia from Alberta back at the beginning of February of this year.

My LiveJournal seems to be for me what Facebook or Twitter are to a lot of people- My means of keeping in touch with darn near anyone and everyone I ever held a rapport with on the internet. It doesn't get all of my meaningful blather anymore. It's stopped being a journal and it's started being nothing more than a social tool; an outlet for getting in contact with people, or for recreational purposes in circles like Fandom High.

Maybe I'll just go with the flow and see what kind of content makes its way onto here. These little corners of the internet have an interesting way of sorting themselves out on their own, after all.

Hey there, Dreamwidth. It's Shannon. You look like you're full of shiny newness. Please don't let me down.
puffinmuffin: (Issues Wheeeee)
I didn't put it off, this time.

I tried as hard as I could, and worked on it whenever I could manage. I got my new stylus exactly a week ago. The lineart had been mostly done, and all that was left was to colour it all in and piece it together for her.

But it isn't finished. I don't know that I can finish it, now.

But I Can Show You )

Thank you to everyone who contributed their suggestions, drawings, moral support, and boundless patience while I worked on this. Thank you to D, who came up with the idea in the first place, Relly, who passed the idea on to me and directed me back to D so that we could discuss this further, and then went on to cheerlead while I flailed and panicked and pulled out hair for weeks every time I hit a snag. Thank you to Alanna and TBQ for the drawings that they sent, and to Xandah, Relly, Alanna, D, and everyone else who gathered links and suggestions for these drawings. And thanks to my dad, for shelling out the $50 to replace my art stylus as a Christmas present, even if he couldn't figure out why I was panicking and upset that the one I had to work with was in several pieces and wouldn't draw a straight line.

But most of all, thank you to Monsta.

I made sure the drawings had plenty of pom-poms, just for you.
puffinmuffin: (Nashi - Arteest)

Have you ever, ever had someone point at your art (be it a written or a visual representation of an idea) and say, "Hey! That's someone else's idea and you're a thief!"?
Seriously. I've been accused by rabid fans of other artists of stealing my old purple gryphon self from Maggock, and of taking the idea for maned dragons from Etherrawen. Heck, even hooved hindfeet? Not original. Striped dragons? WTF THIEF YOU HORRIBLE ART STEALER.

Newsflash. Not much is fantastically original anymore unless it touches on the border of absolutely absurd.
And you don't have to slop together eight different animals to come up with something original, and you don't have to go into painstaking detail with every character you write to ensure that nothing in a storybook could possibly be mistaken for something else. If it's an expression of your own personality and not something blatantly copied from someone else, you aren't a thief.
Feel free to be the hundredth wolf with bull horns or to write a story with another run-of-the-mill vampire. Personality doesn't always reside within variety. There are a bajillion gryphons on the internet. More than one is bound to be purple. There are even more wolves. When you're dabbling in fantasy, there are probably going to be a few that end up with horns. Sci-fi? Yeah. You're going to see mech arms. Anime? There are only so many ways you can make hair defy gravity and still be original, seriously. And if someone points a finger at you and goes, "hey! You're not allowed to draw a dog in an abnormal colour because ---- has already done it!" Then don't be afraid to give them a middle finger salute. Seriously.

Be yourself. If it's your self-expression, do whatever feels right. Who cares if parts of it have been done before? They call that "inspiration." If you honestly want to end up with a spotted purple hippo-rabbit-spider thing? Then heck, go for it! But if all you really want is an anthropomorphic fox, don't let all of the other anthro-foxes stop you.
What matters most is the personality that's backing the image.

This picture was done in collaboration with [livejournal.com profile] gibbouswolf, who drew the lineart which I coloured.
